Spring Reading Wrap-Up

June 23, 2017

Happy beginning of summer everybody! Hope you're having a good time no matter what you're doing. I have a 106 degree day to look forward to here in the desert southwest, so I'll be inside where it's cool.

I can't believe I'm actually posting this on time, but here's my spring reading list in the order of books read.

  1. The Dark Days Club (Lady Helen #1) by Alison Goodman—YA historical paranormal

  2. Just One Damned Thing After Another (The Chronicles of St. Mary’s #1) by Jodi Taylor—Time travel/SF

  3. Murder on St. Nicholas Avenue (Gaslight Mystery #18) by Victoria Thompson—Historical mystery

  4. An Old Betrayal (Charles Lenox Mysteries #7) by Charles Finch—Historical mystery

  5. Shadow and Bone (Shadow and Bone #1) by Leigh Bardugo—YA fantasy

  6. Siege and Storm (Shadow and Bone #2) by Leigh Bardugo—YA fantasy

  7. Four Weddings and a Sixpence: An Anthology by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, Stefanie Sloane—Historical romance

  8. The Hanging Tree (Peter Grant #6) by Ben Aaronovitch—Urban fantasy

  9. The Crown’s Game (The Crown’s Game #1) by Evelyn Skye—YA fantasy

  10. Ruin and Rising (Shadow and Bone #3) by Leigh Bardugo—YA fantasy

  11. Refuge for Masterminds (Stranje House #3) by Kathleen Baldwin—YA alternate history

  12. The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns #1) by Rae Carson—YA fantasy

It's pretty clear that I've been on a huge YA fantasy kick. I just can't seem to get enough. THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS is a reread. I used it in a book club I've started with a few young teenage girls. We've been having a great time discussing books together (our first book was MY LADY JANE). Everyone is going on vacation,

though, so we'll have to pick up with THE CROWN OF EMBERS in August.

Anyway, of this list of books, my favorite is probably RUIN AND RISING because it was the last of a trilogy and I loved the way the author ended it. It had a bittersweet feeling to it, and although I may not have loved everything that happened to the characters, the story felt right.

A close second for my favorite Spring read was REFUGE FOR MASTERMINDS. I'm thoroughly enjoying this YA alternate history series, and Lady Jane may be my favorite heroine so far. I felt for her struggles to trust herself and others, and I can't wait for the next book. (I'm assuming there will be one. :D)

As far as summer goes, I plan to read a few YA contemporaries, but I'm already reading a fantasy so we'll see how it goes. What was your most recent favorite book? Hope you enjoy your summer reading!
